5 Tips For Parents To Optimize their Kids Martial Arts Classes PortlandKids Martial Arts Portland

Here at Mata Leao we are super stoked to train kids on how to be little Jiu-Jitsu ninjas. But it’s more than that that makes having our kid’s Martial Arts Program so worthwhile and awesome. Seeing them crush it at competition is always great! But it’s totally priceless to see how much it’s benefitting them on other levels, like their character and confidence. We have seen absolute transformations, let me tell you.

If you’ve already signed up for Mata Leao’s 30 day trial, congratulations! Jiu Jitsu is the perfect way  for kids to to develop their social skills, stay active, build self-steem and learn to deal with uncomfortable situations. Here are 5 tips that every parent should know when their child starts our Kids Martial Arts Portland Classes here at Mata Leao Combat Sports.

Focus On Jiu Jitsu: Kids Martial Arts Classes Portland

1.It’s okay if they struggle

We hate to see them struggle and fail, but it’s good for them to go out there and not immediately succeed. To persevere despite difficulty is one of the reasons why kids start some important growth. Learning this at an early age is awesome.

2.No Pressure!

It’s okay if they don’t immediately know how to do all the moves or are having a hard time emotionally or physically. They will learn at their own pace and the best thing you can do is just be there for them. You’ll see them change and get more confidence.

3.It’s ok to lose interest

They’re kids after all. Kids tend to have short attention span sometimes. You can ask them what’s wrong and then try to get them excited about rolling Jiu Jitsu again. It IS A BLAST for most people, kids included!

4.Don’t try to correct them

This is more for competitions, but on the mat during class too. Giving instructions from the sideline is the Coaches job!

5. Roll Jiu Jitsu with them!

When I was a kid I used to wrestle with my dad. It was probably the most memorable and enjoyable type of play when I was young!!!!! My dad didn’t know Jiu Jitsu, but it was kind of similar. If you can roll with your kids, that’s a super good way to have fun and bond with them. They’ll have good memories of it too.
