[dt_sc_two_third type =” type1″]The first recorded MMA event we know about is the Pankration in the Olympic Games in Greece of 648 B.C. These fights combined elements of boxing and wrestling with very limited rules of no eye gouging, biting and tearing of the groin. These fights also consisted of no weight or time limits. The Romans had their similar MMA sport called Pancratium whom they spread through their empire throughout Asia, Africa and their European domains. Ancient sources describe and depict all the ranges of moves in modern day mixed martial arts events.

These MMA events started out with the one-on-one competition of style-versus-style at first. These bouts would consist of Karate vs. Wrestling, Jiu Jitsu vs. Tae Kwon Do, Kung Fu vs. Judo and so forth. Although intended at first to highlight the style-versus-style nature of the fights, the “mixed” element of he name is now more broadly understood to refer to the complex linking of the distinct combat skills that this sport requires of its athletes in striking, controlling, and submitting.[/dt_sc_two_third]
