Anderson Silva Derek Brunson Controversy

Anderson Silva Derek Brunson Controversy

The highly anticipated Co-Main Event Featured the 41 year old Anderson Silva as he entered the Octagon for the 22nd time against Derek Brunson, a Wilmington NC native. Brunson, coming off of his 2nd consecutive loss was upset about the decision and tweeted that he “outclassed” Silva.

‪”Wow unreal I put my heart & soul out there on 3 weeks notice only to get it taken from me.I just outclassed the greatest of all time #UFC208‬”

However, some critics have supported the decision saying the the only time that Brunson was really effective was when he was dirty boxing from the clinch, and that he was “running away” for good parts of the match and that he “looked scared.”

Anderson Silva Derek Brunson Controversy

Anderson Silva has said that he knows that he’s aging but he loves to fight and so he still continues to fight in the UFC. We clearly saw last year that he still has the sauce to literally knock out Michael “The Count” Bisping in another match that was highly controversial. We wanted to see a dogfight, we wanted to see the old Anderson Silva, not the “Old” Anderson Silva. However, Anderson comes out to a new song and and everyone was super amped.  Yves Lavigne referees the fight and the two do not touch gloves. Early on Silva takes the middle of the octagon and for a MINUTE there is nothing significant happening whatsoever. Still, for a 41 year old, Silva’s movement is amazing.

Anderson Silva’s Star-Power Got Into Derek Brunson’s Head

I personally as the author have a unique insight into Brunson’s predicament. I used to train martial arts out of Wilmington, NC and there have been some really awesome talent coming out of that region. Michael Jordan used to work at Whitey’s Restaurant on Market Street. Edward Snowden also is a native Wilmingtonian. Other than that, Wilmington (ILM as the cool kids call it) is a postage stamp of a typically economically depressed North Carolina “city.” You gotta think that Derek Brunson is feeling a little bit like he’s having a dream somehow. To ascend to the level where you get to fight the GOAT champ, it must have been like that “fighting underwater” feeling you get when you’re actually dreaming. It just look like somehow he choked and that Anderson got in his head. I think that maybe with such a big fight, he couldn’t help but picture himself in one of the highlight reels, getting KO’d like so many that came before him. Sorry Derek, but if you want to beat the champ, even at 41, you need to bring more sauce than that!!!
